Our Mission

The mission of our organization is to promote the attraction, creation, retention, and expansion of businesses and to enhance our quality of life in Nebraska City and Otoe County.

Our Goals

Our number one priority is to provide economic development services which focus on the county’s priorities, supported by county-wide business and industry. We strive to meet these needs—by providing diverse job opportunities and increasing capital investment and growth of county-wide valuation—by focusing our efforts on industrial recruitment and retention, business development, entrepreneurship, leadership development and downtown redevelopment. We take our role as the County-wide leadership in economic development to heart. Working on identifying and promoting our county-wide opportunities most importantly by identifying, developing and marketing potential development sites throughout Otoe County.

Our Priorities

  • Assist current business and industry with retention and expansion needs
  • Identify, develop and market potential development sites in Otoe County
  • Actively assist and recruit potential employers who create quality jobs and who are best suited to the resources of Otoe County
  • Identify, recruit and assist entrepreneurs in the area
  • Work with local governmental entities on future development, land use and infrastructure needs
  • Educate the public about the importance of economic development to the future of the area
  • Assist with the growth of a quality, skilled local workforce
  • Work on a regional basis to promote the resources and quality of life in Southeast Nebraska

2010 Accomplishments

  • Extensive work to prepare our industrial site Red Fox Run Industrial Park and installation of For Sale Sign.  First plot has been sold.
  • Recertified as a Nebraska Economic Development Certified Community.  Gathered demographic information and updated websites used by site selectors and prospects to view information about our community and multiple properties for sale.
  • Promoted educational workshops and events to the business community. 
  • Hosted an Electronics Recycling event for businesses and the community.  Over 8,800 pounds of electronics were collected and were saved from going into ditches and landfills. 
  • LB840: a total of 7 projects were funded and 3 Downtown Revitalization loans funded. 
  • Developed and promoted available properties in our 5 county region to site selectors. 

2011 Goals & Priorities

  • Continue to make our existing businesses and industries our number one priority and work with them to help find opportunities to increase revenues, decrease expenses or solve problems.
  • Continue the infrastructure developments in Red Fox Run Industrial Park.
  • Continue to market our area and region to our targeted industrial prospects through our five county regional group in partnership with  Richardson, Pawnee, Otoe, Nemaha, and Johnson counties and Lincoln Area Development partnership.
  • Continue to foster and support the activities of  Greater Nebraska Science and Engineering Fair, Nebraska City Green Coalition, I2E, Leadership Nebraska City and Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce, Inc.
  • Continue to partner with our regional partners Nebraska Advantage, Nebraska Business Development Center, WasteCap Nebraska, Southeast Nebraska Partners 4 Progress, Lincoln Area Development Partnership, Nebraska Workforce Development, and NEDA to bring programs to our area which will benefit the companies in Otoe County.
  • Work to implement creative marketing products that will increase the awareness of our community and Otoe County.

Strategic Plan

The NCAEDC Board of Directors participates in strategic planning sessions biannually and prepares a working implementation plan.
